Bellmarine SailMaster re-powers Northshore 27’ yacht
The new Bellmarine SailMaster EcoLine 3.5kW (the first of it’s kind in Australia) has been recently installed by Callaghans Marine Services on Sydney’s Hawkesbury River.
This electric saildrive provides comparable output power to the old 10HP diesel engine and is paired with a standard Yanmar SD25 leg. It’s fitted with a Kiwi feathering propeller to give optimum performance both under power and under sail.
The Bellmarine SailMaster EcoLine product comes as a complete kit, consisting of electric motor, saildrive leg, controller, motor support bracket, display and throttle unit.
This new-generation electric motor is fully enclosed and it’s IP66 rating makes it particularly suitable for the marine environment. The high-torque, low RPM drive system allows use of a large, high pitched propeller. This gives it excellent acceleration and efficiency on displacement hulls such as yachts.
The boat is fitted with a 10.8kW AGM battery bank which provides 4 to 5 hours of running time at a cruising speed of approx. 4 knots. Top speed is 5 knots. The batteries can be re-charged either from shore power by means of the on-board 240V charger or from solar from two lightweight flexible solar panels totaling 200W.
