ePropulsion electric POD 3.0 motor for historic timber putt-putt

One of our clients has a property near the banks of the Colo River, just North of Sydney and was looking for a way to replace the ageing combustion engine but didn’t want to have a bulky diesel inside the boat or an unsightly outboard hanging off the back. Enter the ePropulsion 3kW electric POD motor which gives a performance equivalent to a 6hp diesel engine, but is mounted underneath the hull, much like a saildrive leg on a yacht. It opens up the interior of the boat and offers a quiet and clean, vibration-free river cruising experience.

The installation was carried out with much thought by the owner and his shipwright brother, mounting the POD motor on a slightly raised platform, so that the propeller remains within the draft of the boat’s keel skeg. An additional protective stainless steel strap was mounted around the motor, to offer extra protection from grounding and floating flotsam in the river, submerged logs and branches.

The ePropulsion POD motor can be operated from either lead-acid batteries (like on this boat) or from the matching E-series Lithium batteries. Re-charging is done from shore power or solar panels.
