ePropulsion electric POD motor powers classic race yacht

SV Surprise is a Borresen BB-10, a sleek and easily driven European-designed racing yacht with classic lines. She was powered with a Torqeedo 2kW POD motor for a number of years, and when the time came to upgrade the owner liked to stay with the concept of electric propulsion. A new ePropulsion 3kW POD was duly ordered in, together with E60 Lithium battery, remote throttle and charger. The change-over was relatively straightforward and with the new set-up the boat’s power performance has increased by 30% which makes maneuvering a breeze. The ePropulsion E60 Lithium battery (48V / 3072Wh) will give approx 1hr @full speed or 2hrs @ half speed or 3hrs @ approx 4 knots cruising speed, which is ample to get the boat in and out of the marina, or get home when becalmed. Charging is simply done by plugging the power cord into shore power, the on-board charger takes care of the rest!
