Four Duffy 22’ Bay Island electric boats launched in Canberra
Like on many inland waterways in Australia, the use of petrol or diesel powered boats is largely prohibited on Canberra’s Lake Burley Griffin. So it makes sense that boat-hire operators look at electric boats to make the most of this stunning stretch of water, right in the middle of the City.
Love Boats Canberra, headed up by Captain Charles, was already running a historic timber ferry for intimate gatherings, wedding ceremonies and sunset cruises. He decided that a few Duffy electric boats would make a great addition to his operation. The 4 Duffy 22’ ‘Bay Isand’ electric boats arrived early December and were commissioned over the course of a week and sea trials completed. Soon after, Love Boats Canberra was welcoming the first local Canberra residents and visitors alike to take the helm of these luxurious electric boats.
Duffy boats are very comfortable, like a limousine on the water, and can be operated without the need for a boat license. Their quiet and clean electric motors are operating from an extra large 21kWh battery bank, providing enough power for all-day operations. They come with a full enclosure consisting of a roof and rigid clears which offer safety for small children and protection from the sun in the summer months and protection from rain and wind in the cooler months, prolonging the rental season. The clears can be opened up to allow breeze to come through the boat. Fitted with a surround sound stereo system, fridge and comfortable upholstered sofa seats there is no better way to explore Canberra from the water than in a Duffy electric boat from Love Boats! They even have a ‘Barbie-pink’ boat which is already proving popular for birthdays, hens trips and baby showers. Love Boats Canberra operates from the Kingston Foreshore wharves.
Duffy electric boats are made in California and have been a solid choice for both private owners and rental boat operators for over 50 years!
