Solbian SP Series helps keep yacht batteries charged
This Beneteau Oceanis 32’ yacht has no fixed bimini and offers limited deck space, leaving the only feasible position for a solar panel under the boom, which is not ideal but still gives the batteries a boost when underway and more importantly it keeps the house batteries topped up when the yacht is parked on it’s mooring, where no shore power is available.
This Solbian SP32 flexible solar panel puts out 110 watts under ideal conditions and nicely follows the curvature of the cowling in front of the dodger. It’s mounted with VHB-self adhesive tape around the perimeter of the panel which is strong enough for sailing boats, however for a speedboat or trailer boat we recommend to go with full VHB backing. The soldering wires coming out of the back of the panel allow for a nice flush mount finish, with no unwieldy cabling across the deck.
The SP series is at the top of the range, thanks to its selected back-contact monocrystalline silicon cells, reaching a record 24% conversion of sunlight into electricity. The electrical contacts hidden on the rear of the cell make these panels especially pleasing in appearance.
Back-contact cells represent the most advanced technology on the market, and make the SP Solbian panels the highest-efficiency flexible panels. For more information on the Solbian SP range see here.
